Bhopal gas tragedy,

Dear all,
Welcome.
Yesterday was the twenty-seventh anniversary of the Bhopal gas tragedy, that happened on night of 2nd-3rd Dec.Subsequent to this, the punishment awarded to accused Union Carbide management viz. Keshub Mahindra & others was also diluted resulting in the punishment of mere two years and fine amounting to a few lakh rupees. It was insignificant compared to quantum of deaths amounting thousands who died due to inhale of poisonous gas (MIC) whilst sleeping.
Presently, Dow Chemicals is the owner of Union Carbide & also is sponsor of London Olympics. While the Bhopal case was re-opened following recommendations of e-GoM, the verdict given in 1996 was upheld. The CBI was unable to defend the case before Supreme court. Following some lacuna also, extradition of Mr. Warren Anderson could not be made possible from USA.
All this was due to giving wrong direction to the case pleading since its filing. The compensation is yet to be awarded to the gas victims though it had served to be a major cause for deciding on compensation in case of Nuke liability bill, which is claimed to have certain flaws in it.

Amongst all this was the award instituted by a South Korean agency, which gave its award i.e.Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) for this year to M/s. TATA Chemicals Ltd. The technical know-how upkeep is as vital for a chemical plant as its day-to-day operation. The leftover opened valve at Union Carbide is a sheer negligence on the part of them & management, which resulted in catastrophic casualties.
Thus both technical knowhow & safe operation is vital more so ever for a Nuclear Plant, which are now being closed like that in France for their life cycle completion or else accidents like that of Chernobyl reactor shall be more prominent in our country. Although we have a plethora of scientists like that of Dr. APJ Kalam , who are known for their dedication, still everything can't be just taken over by them.
With Regards,

Manojkumar, Bhilai
