Dear all,
Welcome. The much awaited bill against corruption is once again being brought with outside support from Team Anna & the public. The agitation done by Anna at Ramlila grounds walking on the footsteps of Gandhi had brought both his admirers & critics to the fore. Whereas his critics say that it is not Gandhism as self-purity is not involved but a revenge or even to be in the news. His admirers saw that he certainly reflects Gandhi in some ways & had got followers too.
The Times magazine put his peaceful protest among the top ten news. To reflect on Gandhism, what he himself told was that truth & non-violence were as old as hills. He started his struggle in South Africa against apartheid & even cleaned the toilet shit. He is depicted also in Richard Attenborough's film, Gandhi, as leaving his cloth and wearing only loin cloth after seeing the poverty in India.
His experiences have been narrated in a popular book too i.e. My Experiments with Truth. He did what is termed as introspection at every stage in his struggle whether in South Africa or in India while breaking Salt law or struggle against British Raj. He got a wife named Kasturba who followed her husband's footsteps.
As per him, he himself termed Gandhism as unknown and his search as finding the depth of sea. One should follow his inner self is what he said and preached. As per him, in search of the truth, purity of the means were as important as the ends. His purpose was to preach Satyagraha with example, preaching and self-control. The mere idolatory was not acceptable but bhajans included all religions prayer like,
Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, Patit Pavan Sita Ram,
Ishwar, Allah tero naam, Sabko Sanmati de bhagwan
Anna had been active as social activist after his retirement from Army where he was awarded a few medals. His rain water harvesting projects have been implemented by Madhya Pradesh govt. He is a follower of Gandhism. He amassed his followers under the banner, India Against Corruption. He also went fast-unto-death for unconditional acceptance for three demands.
Lok Pal bill is having a wider scope and as such couldn't be put altogether. Hence, three separate bills viz. Grievance redressal, Judiciary accountability, Citizen charter & Whistle blower amendments have been made. The scope, & powers conferred therein are said to have been more the Election Commission. It is also likely to be having constitutional validity.
To add to this, some sort of refinement is necessarily to be adopted by Team Anna. Say for example, Gandhi went to attend Round table conference in London, where he was dubbed as "naked fakir" by Winston Churchil. When Anna walks higher echelons of Indian society & not being dubbed as Mahatma, it is imperative that some sort of conduct on similar lines of "shuchita" need to be done, which will make him really big when Judiciary accountability bill is presented.
