WPNS,Volcano_eruption,Court_ruling,Elections,Novartis&Earth_day'14

Dear all,
Welcome.
WPNS: Bi-annual Western Pacific Naval summit is being held at China's sea port city of Kingdao wherein twenty five countries are participating in it.  China is hosting it for the first time. It is one of the twelve founder members. The purpose of the summit is to increase practical cooperation amongst Navies of countries touching Pacific Ocean. WPNS was established during 1987.
In the joint exercise, other countries like Bangladesh, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei are also sending warships besides China. Indian Stealth Frigate is also there.
Volcano eruption: The Satellite pictures could be used for ascertaining whether volcano is on the verge of eruption or not? Researchers believe that magma (molten rock) speed or pressure often changes the shape of volcano. It's uprise is being considered due to magma action. If it rises to surface, it could signal volcano eruption. However, other factors are also likely to change volcano shape.
The Satellite radar pictures related to volcano shape could be useful for knowing volcanic action.
Court rulings:
1. Ansal brothers: During the infamous Uphaar Cine talkies fire, Ansal brothers had been directed so as not to leave the country without permission. However, Justice Bench had permitted them to get treatment at US.
During earlier hearing on March 26, the apex Court expressed it's dismay over S.Ansal leaving country without taking permission. The petition was made by Victims of Uphaar Fire tragedy against Ansal brothers. It is to note that during 1997 incident, 59 people had died due to fire breaking in Cine talkies.
Elections: US based think tank, Information Technology & Innovation Foundation(ITIF) had stated that India must tread the path of modern economy to be competitive & increased growth rate. It would have to increase productivity, liberalise and promote advanced policies in highly competitive market.
In a report titled, "The Indian Economy at a cross road", it had stated that the strategy would strengthen advanced industrial sector at domestic level so as to compete in global environment. Also, job creation and income increase would be attained. The report contains 130 pages and states that PMA rules under which are biopharma intellectual capital license and ICT products purchase pose threat to Indian economy. These are bound to promote local few domestic industries. It would have short term benefits but lessen FDI.
Novartis: Global Pharma co., Novartis, would be purchasing business stakes of Glaxo Smithkline amounting 96,000 crore INR. In turn, Novartis would be selling it's vaccine business to GSK amounting 710 crore dollars. Under the agreement, both companies would establish joint venture for consumer healthcare business, which would be established in three stages.
Novartis's Over the counter (OTC) business would establish unit jointly along with GSK consumer business. It would have annual turnover of 1000 crore dollar and would be the biggest consumer healthcare unit. Britain's GSK would have 63.5% stake. Switzerland based GSK would purchase cancer medicine business in 1600 crore dollars. Cancer research & future plans would have Novartis rights.
Novartis vaccine business would be sold with 525 crore dollars in cash whereas 180 crore dollar in various stages. As per CEO, the deal is very important. It had already begun selling it's flu business. Besides, animal health trade would be sold.
It is also stated that it would not affect Indian business.
With regards,

Original_app_mssg(1) Earth Day 2014: Green Cities
Earth Day 2014 will focus on green cities, mobilizing a millions of people to create a sustainable, healthy environment by greening communities worldwide. Today, more than half of the world’s population lives in cities. As the urban population grows and the effects of climate change worsen, our cities have to evolve.
It’s time for us to invest in efficiency and renewable energy, rebuild our cities and towns, and begin to solve the climate crisis. Over the next two years, with a focus on Earth Day 2014, the Green Cities campaign will mobilize a global movement to accelerate this transition. Join us in calling for a new era of green cities.
Mother Earth is a common expression for the planet Earth in a number of countries and regions, which reflects the interdependence that exists among human beings, other living species and the planet. For instance, Bolivians call Mother Earth Pachamama and Nicaraguans refer to her as Tonantzin.
Recognizing that Mother Earth reflects the interdependence that exists among human beings, other living species and the planet we all inhabit, the General Assembly declared 22 April as International Mother Earth Day (A/RES/63/278).
The Green Cities Campaign
The Green Cities Campaign helps cities and communities around the world accelerate their transition to a more sustainable future. More information.
